Kermit Murdock (March 20, 1908 – February 11, 1981) was an American actor born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, whose career spanned film, television, radio, and Broadway from 1931 to 1967. He became particularly recognized for avuncular and professorial character roles across multiple entertainment mediums.
Murdock's Broadway work included appearances in the musical Merry-Go-Round, the play No More Frontier, The Strong Are Lonely, and More Stately Mansions. His stage career extended across more than three decades, reflecting a sustained presence in the theatrical world alongside his work in other mediums.
In film, Murdock contributed character performances to several notable productions. He portrayed Dean Pollard in Splendor in the Grass (1961), appeared as Henderson, a banker, in In the Heat of the Night (1967), and played Dr. Robertson in The Andromeda Strain (1971).
Television provided Murdock with a range of character roles throughout the 1960s and 1970s. He appeared in episodes of The Defenders, The Mod Squad, Kung Fu, and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. In 1969, he portrayed a prosecutor of witches in the Star Trek episode "All Our Yesterdays," which was the penultimate episode of that series.
Murdock was also active in radio, contributing voice performances to numerous episodes of the 1950s science fiction series X Minus One. He appeared in the Mysterious Traveler episode "Survival of the Fittest" alongside Everett Sloane, and was featured in an episode of Adventure Ahead.
