About
Kenny Mellman is an American musician, pianist, and cabaret artist based in the performing arts world. A multifaceted stage presence, he has worked across Broadway, downtown cabaret, and the recording industry throughout his career.
Mellman is best known as the co-creator, alongside Justin Bond, of the cabaret act Kiki and Herb, in which he portrays the character Herb. The duo brought their work to Broadway in 2006 with Kiki & Herb: Alive on Broadway. The production marked Mellman's Broadway debut and represented a culmination of the duo's long-running performance collaboration.
Beyond his work with Bond, Mellman has developed projects as both a solo artist and a collaborator. He created the solo show Kenny Mellman Is Grace Jones and co-wrote At Least It's Pink with Bridget Everett and Michael Patrick King. His collaborative reach also extended to The Three Terrors, a group that included Stephin Merritt, LD Beghtol, and Dudley Klute.
Mellman's contributions to recorded music include playing piano for Bob Mould's vocal performance on the track "He Didn't," which appears on The 6ths' album Hyacinths and Thistles. He is also a member of the band The Julie Ruin, further demonstrating the breadth of his musical activity outside the theatrical sphere.
