About

Kenneth Casey (January 10, 1899 – August 10, 1965) was a New York-born composer, author, publisher, and performer whose career spanned silent film, songwriting, and Broadway. His work crossed several decades and entertainment disciplines, beginning with his earliest appearances as a child actor in the first decade of the twentieth century.

Born in New York City, Casey began performing on screen as a child, completing more than thirty films for Vitagraph Studios between 1909 and 1913. Among his earliest screen appearances was the 1909 short We Must Do Our Best, in which he appeared alongside a young Moe Howard, who would later gain widespread fame as a member of The Three Stooges. Casey's silent film credits from this period include A Tale of Two Cities (1911), Mammy's Ghost (1911), The Child Crusoes (1911), and numerous other short subjects produced during the early years of American cinema.

As a songwriter, Casey made a lasting contribution to American popular music when he wrote the lyrics to "Sweet Georgia Brown" in 1925, a song that has remained widely recognized in the decades since its publication.

Casey's career extended to the Broadway stage, where he appeared in productions between 1939 and 1945. His credits included The American Way, the musical Lady in the Dark, and the musical Up in Central Park.
