Kearran Giovanni

Kearran Giovanni is an American actress and Broadway performer, widely recognized for her role as Detective Amy Sykes in the TNT police procedural series Major Crimes. Born in Lafayette, Louisiana and raised in Katy, Texas, Giovanni pursued formal training at The High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston before continuing her studies at the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music.

In 2004, Giovanni relocated to New York City and established herself on Broadway, where she performed from 2005 to 2011. Her stage credits include Hugh Jackman: Back on Broadway, Catch Me If You Can, Guys and Dolls, Anything Goes, Finian's Rainbow, Sweet Charity, and Tarzan, appearing in ensemble roles across these productions.

Giovanni expanded into television with a recurring role as Dr. Vivian Wright on the ABC daytime soap opera One Life to Live, a part she held from 2009 through the series finale in 2012. That same year, in February 2012, she was cast as Detective Amy Sykes in Major Crimes on TNT, marking her first series regular role. Also in 2012, she guest-starred on USA Network's Royal Pains, followed by a guest appearance on The CW's Beauty and the Beast in 2013.

In 2016, Giovanni took on a recurring role as Senator Diane Hunter in the ABC political drama Designated Survivor. After Major Crimes concluded in 2018, she guest-starred on The CW's Dynasty and the CBS series Bull, and subsequently recurred in the second season of The CW's Black Lightning, portraying the character Cutter.
