Kathryn Layng

Kathryn Anne Layng, born September 20, 1960, in Rockford, Illinois, is an American actress whose career has spanned television, film, and the Broadway stage. She attended Thomas Jefferson High School, where she was named Homecoming Queen by the Class of 1978, and later earned a degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Layng's Broadway work took place between 1988 and 1999 and included productions of M. Butterfly and Death of a Salesman. During roughly the same period, she established a significant presence on television through her recurring role as nurse Mary Margaret "Curly" Spaulding on the ABC comedy-drama series Doogie Howser, M.D., which ran from 1989 to 1993 and served as her first major screen role. In 1991, she appeared in the television series Pro and Cons and in the feature film The Marrying Man. Following the conclusion of Doogie Howser, M.D., Layng guest starred in Joe's Life and Diagnosis: Murder and performed in the 1993 television short film Traveler's Rest. In 2012, she co-starred in the independent film White Frog, which was produced by her husband, playwright David Henry Hwang.

Layng married Hwang in 1993, and the couple has two children, Noah David and Eva Veanne. They reside in New York City.
