About

Kathryn Grody is an American actress, writer, and producer born in 1947 in Los Angeles, California. She trained at HB Studio in New York City and built a career spanning stage, film, and television.

Grody's Broadway career extended from 1974 to 1998 and included appearances in Scapino and The Exonerated, as well as the solo show A Mom's Life, for which she received a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding One Person Show/Solo Performance in 1990. Her stage writing credits include the autobiographical works Mom's Life and The Unexpected 3rd.

Her film work includes roles in My Bodyguard (1980), Reds (1981), and The Lemon Sisters (1989), the last of which featured her alongside Diane Keaton and Carol Kane.

Grody has been married to actor and singer Mandy Patinkin since 1980. The couple have two sons, Isaac and Gideon. In 2020, Gideon began documenting their daily lives through photography and video, sharing the material across social media platforms and building a substantial following for the family. That same year, Grody and Patinkin collaborated with Swing Left, producing videos with their sons to encourage voters to support Joe Biden in the 2020 United States presidential election. In 2025, Grody and Patinkin premiered Seasoned, an indie episodic dramedy drawn from their real lives, at the Tribeca Festival. That year, in a New York Times interview, Grody spoke critically of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's policies during the Gaza War, describing them as harmful to Jewish people, and argued that opposing those policies did not constitute antisemitism or self-hatred. She also stated that compassion for people in Gaza is consistent with Jewish values.
