About
Kathryn Gallagher is an American actress and singer born on July 23, 1993, in New York, New York, to actor Peter Gallagher and Paula Harwood. At age eleven, she relocated to Los Angeles, where she began studying theater at the Adderley School. She later attended the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music, and began writing original music during her middle school years.
Gallagher's Broadway career spans 2015 to 2019. Her debut came with Deaf West Theatre's Broadway revival of Spring Awakening, in which she played the Voice of Martha and also served as the production's dance captain. She pursued the role following a recommendation from actor Ben Platt.
In 2019, Gallagher joined the Broadway cast of Jagged Little Pill as Bella Fox, a principal role that had been expanded from a featured ensemble part. The expansion prompted Alanis Morissette to write an original song, "Predator," specifically for Gallagher to perform in the show. Jagged Little Pill began previews in November 2019, opened on December 5, 2019, and closed on December 17, 2021. Gallagher appeared on the production's original Broadway cast recording, which received a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. On October 15, 2020, she received a Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical for the role.
Beyond the stage, Gallagher has appeared in several television projects. Her most prominent screen role was Annika in eight episodes of Season One of the Lifetime series You. She also guest starred on The Flash and Indoor Boys.
As a recording artist, Gallagher has released four solo EPs of original music. Her debut EP, I'm Fine, appeared in 2014, followed by American Spirit in 2015. In 2020, she self-produced two additional EPs, Demos, Vol. 1 and Demos, Vol. 2, recorded at her family's house in Connecticut during the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier in her career, her song "Nothing Ever None" was included on the soundtrack for the 2011 film Someday This Pain Will Be Useful to You, and "Damaged" appeared on the soundtrack for the 2012 film Thanks for Sharing. She also has a songwriting credit on "Wanna Wear a Dress" by Harper Grae, released in 2019.
