Kathleen Maguire (September 27, 1925 – August 9, 1989) was an American actress born in New York City whose career spanned stage, film, and television across four decades. She studied acting under Lee Strasberg and Sanford Meisner, two of the most influential acting teachers of the twentieth century.
Maguire's stage career extended from 1948 to 1972, encompassing a range of Broadway productions including Cry of the Peacock, The Greatest Man Alive, The Best Man, The Sudden & Accidental Re-Education of Horse Johnson, and Ring Round the Bathtub. Her work in the theater earned her an Obie Award in 1958 for her performance in the stage play The Time of the Cuckoo.
Her screen career included a number of film appearances, among them the 1957 drama Edge of the City, Flipper (1963), The Borgia Stick (1967), The Concorde... Airport '79 (1979), Willie & Phil (1980), and the television film Bill (1981). On television, Maguire was known for her work in daytime serials. She played Kate Austen, a wealthy widow, on A Flame in the Wind, and Adrian Sims, a conservative doctor's wife, on A World Apart. She subsequently joined the cast of the long-running serial One Life to Live, taking over the role of Anna Wolek Craig from Doris Belack.
Maguire died on August 9, 1989, at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, New York, from cancer of the esophagus. She was 63 years old and had been a resident of Manhattan.
