Kate Goehring is an American actress whose work spans stage, film, and television, with a Broadway career extending from 1994 to 2019. She grew up on Mason's Island, the daughter of Edmund Goehring, Sr., a Navy Commander during World War II who later served as a vice president of sales for an electronics company, and Helen Goehring, a writer and development director. Goehring earned a degree in American Romantic Fiction from Oberlin College.

Her theatrical career took shape in Chicago, where she first attracted attention playing the lead in Christopher Durang's Laughing Wild, a performance that earned her both a Joseph Jefferson Citation and an After Dark Award. Early in that same period, she received a Joseph Jefferson Award nomination for Candida at the Court Theatre. Her Chicago stage work brought her into collaboration with several prominent companies, including the Goodman Theatre, Victory Gardens Theater, Northlight Theatre, and Bailiwick Repertory Theatre, and she earned her Equity Card during this time. She also received a Joseph Jefferson Award nomination for her work in Angels in America.

Goehring played Harper Pitt on Tony Kushner's first national tour of Angels in America, a role that brought her a Carbonell Award for Principal Actress. Her Broadway credits include Angels in America: Millennium Approaches and The Inheritance, the latter directed by Stephen Daldry. Regional theater credits span a wide range of institutions and roles, among them Eleanor of Aquitaine in the Folger Shakespeare Library's production of The Life and Death of King John, Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest at New York Classical Theatre, and Bella opposite Judy Kaye in Lost in Yonkers at the Arizona Theatre Company. She originated the role of Mother Radiunt in the world premiere of Radiunt Abundunt at Triad Stage, and played Vivian Bearing, PhD, in Margaret Edson's Wit at North Carolina Theatre, earning the Broadway World/Raleigh Award for Best Actress in a Play. Additional regional credits include the Intiman, A Contemporary Theatre, Arena Stage, the McCarter Theatre, the Huntington Theatre Company, and Milwaukee Repertory. She also received a Leon Rabin Award for Actress in a Leading Role for Experiment with an Airpump and a Seattle Footlights Award for Principal Actress for Collected Stories.

On screen, Goehring co-starred in the independent feature Swimmers and won Best Performance by an Actor at the New York Shorts International Film Festival in 2023 for the short film Bad Mother, which also earned her a Best Performance award at the Fire Island Film Festival. She starred opposite David Jason as Detective Grace Wallace in ITV's March in Windy City and played Myra Kraft in American Sports Story. She originated the character of Magenta in the video game Grand Theft Auto V. Her television appearances include Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Stella, Gossip Girl, One Life to Live, ER, and The Untouchables. She received a Chicago Midwest Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in John Logan's Moment of Rage, starring Denis O'Hare.
