Between 1930 and 1932, Karl Swenson performed under the stage name "Peter Wayne." He used this name as a member of University Players, a summer stock company on Cape Cod, throughout the summer of 1931 and the subsequent winter season in Baltimore, Maryland. By the summer of 1932, University Players had reorganized as The Theatre Unit, Inc., and mounted an original production called Carry Nation. Following its pre-Broadway run in Baltimore, Karl Swenson dropped the pseudonym and appeared under his own name when Carry Nation opened on Broadway.
