About
Karen Pittman is an American actress whose work spans Broadway, television, and film. Born in 1975 or 1976, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in Voice and Opera from Northwestern University and a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from New York University's Graduate Acting Program. Before pursuing acting professionally, Pittman worked in finance, a path she left behind after concluding that money was not her primary motivation.
Pittman's Broadway career ran from 2008 to 2014 and included productions of Passing Strange, Good People, and Disgraced. Her stage work earned her a Theatre World Award in 2015. In the 2012 Lincoln Center production of Disgraced, she portrayed the character Jory.
Her television career began with guest appearances on 30 Rock, Law & Order, and House of Cards before she secured recurring roles in FX's The Americans, where she played Lisa from 2014 to 2016, and Netflix's Luke Cage, in which she portrayed Inspector Priscilla Ridley from 2016 to 2018. Pittman gained wider recognition beginning in 2019 with her role as Mia Jordan in the Apple TV+ drama series The Morning Show. Her performance in the series' third season brought her nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. She and the ensemble cast also received Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series in 2022 and 2024. Simultaneously, from 2021 to 2023, she starred as Dr. Nya Wallace in the HBO Max comedy-drama And Just Like That....
In 2022, Pittman took on her first leading film role in the romantic drama Unthinkably Good Things, directed by Terri J. Vaughn. She subsequently appeared alongside Corey Stoll in the crime drama What We Do Next.
Pittman is the mother of two children, Jake and Lena, and has spoken publicly about the experience of raising them as a single mother. Her Morning Show costar Greta Lee, along with other cast and crew members, hosted an engagement party for Pittman on set.
