About
Kara Lindsay, born Kara Lynn Massey on February 16, 1985, in Rochester, New York, is an American stage actress and singer whose Broadway career spanned from 2003 to 2014. She attended Greece Athena High School before earning a BFA in acting and musical theatre from Carnegie Mellon University.
Lindsay's professional stage work began taking shape in 2009, when she appeared at the Paper Mill Playhouse as Laura in Little House on the Prairie, a musical theatre production that featured Melissa Gilbert — who had played Laura in the original television series — in the role of Ma. It was during the final callbacks for that production in 2008 that Lindsay met Kevin Massey, whom she would later marry on June 2, 2013. The couple has a son, Emerson Charles Massey, born November 12, 2019, and they appear together annually at the Disney Epcot International Festival of Arts in Orlando, Florida.
In 2011, Lindsay originated the role of Katherine Plumber in Newsies, a stage musical written by Harvey Fierstein for Disney. The character serves as the fictional love interest of protagonist Jack Kelly, though Lindsay drew on the real-life investigative journalist Nellie Bly as inspiration for her portrayal. When Newsies transferred to Broadway, Lindsay continued in the role, playing her final performance on February 2, 2014.
Later in 2014, from April 2 through November 23, Lindsay played Glinda in the second national tour of Wicked, starring opposite Laurel Harris as Elphaba. She then brought the role to Broadway beginning December 16, 2014, remaining in the production until January 31, 2016, when she was replaced by Carrie St. Louis. Lindsay returned to the Broadway company on November 1, 2016, once again replacing St. Louis. In 2018 she rejoined the second national tour, and on February 24, 2019, she exited the company alongside Jackie Burns in Salt Lake City. She also appeared in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical during her Broadway career.
In February 2025, Lindsay disclosed that she had been diagnosed with stage two breast cancer in late 2024 and had completed chemotherapy in January 2025.
