Kaila Mullady

Kaila Mullady, born April 11, 1993, is an American beatboxer, beatrhymer, musician, and actress. She is a member of the improv rap group Freestyle Love Supreme, performing under the name Kaizer Roze, and a former member of the American beatbox collective Beatbox House.

Mullady began playing guitar at age ten and later started beatboxing at parties. She initially pursued a path toward teaching before shifting her focus to music. In 2012, an introduction to award-winning beatboxer J-Flo connected her to the broader beatbox community. Following an accident that resulted in a broken back and a period of recovery during which she could not perform, she met beatbox pioneer Kid Lucky, who introduced her to beatrhyming and became her mentor and frequent collaborator. Together they perform and lead workshops in beatboxing and beatrhyming across the country under the name The Adventures of Kaila and the Kid.

Her competitive accomplishments include winning the Beatbox Battle World Championship in the solo female category in both 2015 and 2018, earning the title of 2015 world female beatbox champion, and accumulating titles as a three-time beatrhyming champion, three-time American loopstation champion, and 2014 vice American champion. Beyond competition, Mullady performs with the hip-hop and improv comedy group North Coast and has appeared in commercials for Clinique and Spoonflower.

Mullady serves as head director of BEAT Global's Beat Rocker program, where she developed a speech therapy method that uses beatboxing and beatrhyming to build speech articulation skills, working directly with blind and mentally handicapped youth. She also collaborates with beatboxer, vocalist, and actor Mark Martin, competing with him in tag team beatbox battles under the name Power Couple and performing as a musical duo called Lightship.

On Broadway, Mullady appeared in Freestyle Love Supreme from 2019 to 2021. As a solo artist, her style incorporates polyrhythms, avant-garde compositions, theatrical performance elements, the mouth trumpet technique, and beatrhyming, as well as one-woman band performances combining singing, beatboxing, guitar, rapping, and live looping.
