About

Justin Jacob Long, born June 2, 1978, in Fairfield, Connecticut, is an American actor and comedian whose career spans film, television, and Broadway. He is the second of three sons born to R. James Long, a philosophy and Latin professor at Fairfield University, and Wendy Lesniak, a former stage actress. His paternal grandmother was of Sicilian descent. His older brother, Damian, works as a stage actor and teacher at Weston High School in Weston, Connecticut, while his younger brother, Christian, is an actor and director. Long was raised Catholic and attended Fairfield College Preparatory School, a Jesuit institution, before enrolling at Vassar College, where he participated in the sketch comedy group Laughingstock and performed in several plays, including Butterflies Are Free.

Long appeared on Broadway between 2003 and 2011, with credits including Seminar, The 24 Hour Plays 2004, and The 24 Hour Plays 2003. His stage work also extended to regional theater; in July and August 2010, he performed in a production of Samuel J. and K. at the Williamstown Theatre Festival.

His screen career began with a role in Galaxy Quest in 1999, and he subsequently built a substantial film résumé across comedy and horror genres. His horror work, which includes Jeepers Creepers (2001), Drag Me to Hell (2009), Tusk (2014), and Barbarian (2022), has earned him recognition as a scream king. Among his comedy credits are Dodgeball (2004), Herbie: Fully Loaded (2005), Accepted (2006), Idiocracy (2006), and He's Just Not That Into You (2009). In 2007, he co-starred with Bruce Willis in Live Free or Die Hard as a white-hat hacker. He also appeared in Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008), Going the Distance (2010), and Best Man Down (2013). In 2014, he co-produced and starred in the independent drama Comet alongside Emmy Rossum. His voice work includes the role of Alvin Seville across the live-action Alvin and the Chipmunks film series and the character Humphrey in Alpha and Omega (2010). Long also directed and wrote a segment for V/H/S/Beyond, released on Shudder on October 4, 2024, and is set to appear in Weapons (2025).

On television, Long is recognized for playing Warren Cheswick in the NBC comedy-drama series Ed, which ran from 2000 to 2004. He later voiced Kevin Murphy in the Netflix animated sitcom F Is for Family from 2015 to 2021. His portrayal of Nathan Bratt in the Disney+ series Goosebumps (2023) earned him a nomination for the Children's and Family Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Performer. From 2006 to 2009, he appeared alongside John Hodgman in Apple's "Get a Mac" television campaign, in which Long portrayed a Mac and Hodgman portrayed a PC. He also appeared in Intel's "Go PC" campaign. In 2020, he appeared in the reality series Celebrity Watch Party alongside his brother Christian.

Long has worked in audio and live performance as well. He recorded the audiobook versions of Judy Blume's Then Again, Maybe I Won't and Stephen King's Everything's Eventual. On June 24, 2019, he participated in The Investigation: A Search for the Truth in Ten Acts, a dramatic reading of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report, in which he portrayed former FBI Director James Comey. In April 2019, he launched the podcast Life Is Short with Justin Long through Wondery, with actor Neil Patrick Harris as his first guest.
