About
June Elvidge (June 30, 1893 – May 1, 1965) was an American actress who worked in silent film and on Broadway during the early twentieth century. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, she was of English and Irish descent and received her education at Pennsylvania College. Before pursuing acting, she worked as a concert singer.
Elvidge made her stage debut in the Passing Show of 1914, a production staged by Sam Shubert at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City, where she remained for two years. Her Broadway career included a 1920 appearance in the musical The Girl in the Spotlight, in which she portrayed the character Nina Romaine.
Her screen career began in 1915 when she joined the World Film stock company, making her film debut in The Lure of Woman that same year. She became particularly associated with vamp roles in silent pictures, a category that included The Poison Pen (1919). Her filmography also encompassed Westerns, among them The Price of Pride (1917) and The Law of the Yukon (1920). Over the course of her film career, which concluded in 1924, she appeared in seventy motion pictures.
Following her departure from films, Elvidge toured the United States performing in vaudeville on the Orpheum Circuit and retired from show business around 1925. She died on May 1, 1965, at the Mary Lee Nursing Home in Eatontown, New Jersey, at the age of 71. She was the widow of Britton Busch, a stockbroker.
