About
Judson Laire (August 3, 1902 – July 5, 1979) was an American actor who worked across stage, film, and television over a career spanning three decades. He was born in Pleasantville, New York, and became particularly well known to television audiences for his role as Lars Hansen in the CBS series Mama, which ran from 1949 to 1957. Laire also appeared in several daytime soap operas, including As the World Turns, The Nurses, Love is a Many Splendored Thing, and The Edge of Night.
Laire's Broadway career extended from 1931 to 1960 and encompassed nine productions. His stage credits included Technique, Signature, Doctors Disagree, Third Best Sport, and Advise and Consent, the last of which was written by Loring Mandel and opened on November 17, 1960. His work on Broadway reflected a range of genres, from comedy to drama.
Beyond his stage and soap opera work, Laire took on historical roles in television. On May 13, 1961, he portrayed Woodrow Wilson in the NBC episode "Woodrow Wilson and the Unknown Soldier," part of the series Our American Heritage.
Laire died on July 5, 1979, in a hospital in Rhinebeck, New York, at the age of 76.
