About

Judith Braun (February 16, 1930 – June 24, 2021) was an American actress born in New York City whose career extended across two decades, primarily in the 1950s and 1960s. Her father, a lawyer, had hoped she would pursue a legal career, but Braun chose acting instead.

Braun began her screen career with MGM, appearing in several films directed by Budd Boetticher. Among her early roles was Red Ball Express, in which she played a Red Cross officer whose character becomes entangled with the two leads portrayed by Jeff Chandler and Art Grey. She also appeared in supporting capacities in Horizons West and Flame of Araby during the early 1950s.

In 1955, Braun made her Broadway debut in the drama Tiger at the Gates. Her stage work was accompanied by television appearances, including roles on Perry Mason and Shirley Temple's Storybook, which occupied much of her later career through the early 1960s. She retired from acting in 1962.

In her personal life, Braun married writer Walter Bernstein in 1960. The couple had three children together — Nicholas, Andrew, and Jake Bernstein — before divorcing in 1984. Braun remained in New York throughout her life and died there on June 24, 2021, at the age of 91.
