About
Joshua Boone is an American actor born in Portsmouth, Virginia, who has maintained an active Broadway presence since 2014. He earned a BFA in Theatre Performance from Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in 2010 and later returned to that institution as commencement speaker for the class of 2024.
Boone made his Broadway debut at the Palace Theatre in the jukebox musical Holler If Ya Hear Me, a production built around the music of Tupac Shakur. He originated the role of Darius in the show, which ran for 38 performances before closing in 2014. Four years later, he appeared in Network alongside Bryan Cranston, taking on the role of executive Frank Hackett. Prior to the COVID-19 shutdown, Boone also appeared at MCC Theater in All the Natalie Portmans, which opened February 24, 2020, and closed March 12, 2020, where he played the older brother of Kara Young's protagonist. In 2022, he joined the Broadway production of Skeleton Crew, playing Dez, a performance that earned him a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play.
Beginning in March 2024, Boone took on the role of Dallas "Dally" Winston in the musical The Outsiders, a production he was introduced to through his friend Brody Grant, who originated the role of Ponyboy. The performance earned Boone a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. He remained with the production through late January 2025. Boone is scheduled to return to Broadway in April 2026 in a revival of Joe Turner's Come and Gone, directed by Debbie Allen, playing Herald Loomis, a role originated on Broadway by Delroy Lindo in 1988.
Beyond the stage, Boone starred opposite Zora Howard in the 2019 film Premature and later appeared in the 2022 Tyler Perry and Netflix film A Jazzman's Blues, which brought him two NAACP Image Award nominations.
