Joseph Beruh

Joseph Beruh (1924 – October 30, 1989) was an American theatrical producer and occasional actor born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, he built a career spanning Broadway, Off-Broadway, and film production.

Beruh began his association with the stage as a performer, appearing on Broadway between 1954 and 1957 in productions including The Threepenny Opera and the drama Compulsion. He subsequently transitioned into production and management, serving for fifteen years as general manager of the Sheridan Square Playhouse. His work as a producer frequently brought him into collaboration with Edgar Lansbury as co-producer.

Among his Broadway producing credits, Beruh was involved in a number of significant productions during the 1970s. These included The Magic Show and a revival of Gypsy, both in 1974, followed by The Night That Made America Famous in 1975 and Godspell in 1976. His 1977 production of David Mamet's American Buffalo earned a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding New Play (American).

Beruh also extended his producing work into film. His screen credits include Camera Three (1971), The Wild Party (1975), Squirm (1976), Blue Sunshine (1977), He Knows You're Alone (1980), and The Clairvoyant (1982).

Beruh died in his sleep from a heart attack on October 30, 1989, at the age of 65.
