Joseph Attles (April 7, 1903 – October 29, 1990) was an American actor whose career spanned the legitimate theater, vaudeville, and motion pictures. Born in James Island, South Carolina, he went on to become a Broadway performer with credits stretching from 1928 to 1976.

Before establishing himself as a full-time performer, Attles worked as a postal clerk and sang in the choir at Abyssinian Baptist Church in New York. During periods between theatrical engagements, he also worked as a waiter in a dining car on the Pennsylvania Railroad.

Attles made his Broadway debut with Blackbirds of 1928 and continued accumulating stage credits across several decades. His theater work included John Henry in 1940, Porgy and Bess in 1953, and Jericho-Jim Crow. He appeared in Kwamina in 1961 and Tambourines to Glory in 1963, followed by A Cry of Players in 1968 and King Lear in 1969. The Last of Mrs. Lincoln brought him back to Broadway in 1973, and he starred in Bubbling Brown Sugar in 1977.

Attles died of prostate cancer on October 29, 1990, in Charleston, South Carolina.
