About
Jordan E. Cooper, born in 1995, is an American playwright, actor, and director whose work spans theater, television, and film. His Broadway debut with the satirical play Ain't No Mo' in 2022 made him the youngest Black American playwright to have a work produced on Broadway, as well as the youngest Black American playwright to receive a Tony Award nomination.
Ain't No Mo' earned six Tony Award nominations in 2023, including Best Play, and also received an Obie Award. Cooper himself received a Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play for his work in the production. The play's Broadway run marked a significant milestone in Cooper's career and in American theater more broadly.
Beyond the stage, Cooper created, serves as showrunner, and executive produces the sitcom The Ms. Pat Show, which received an Emmy Award nomination. His television acting credits include a role as MC Tyrone in the third season of the FX series Pose. His earlier theatrical works include Black Boy Fly and Mama Got a Cough, the latter of which The New York Times recognized as one of the best theater productions of 2020.
In 2024, Cooper was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, reflecting his impact across multiple areas of the entertainment industry before the age of 30.
