Jonathan Farwell

Jonathan Farwell (January 9, 1932 – November 22, 2025) was an American actor whose career spanned film, television, and Broadway. Born in Lansing, Michigan, he was the son of Arthur Farwell, a composer, and Gertrude Everts Brice, an actress. After serving in the United States Air Force, Farwell pursued his education at Ithaca College and undertook postgraduate studies at Yale University.

Farwell's Broadway career ran from 1980 to 1985 and included appearances in The King and I, Morning's at Seven, and Amadeus. On television, he became widely recognized for his recurring role as George Rawlins on the CBS daytime drama The Young and the Restless.

On July 23, 1955, Farwell married actress Joerle Anne Gaines, who performed professionally as Jo Farwell. The couple had two daughters, Alison Beatrice Farwell, born in 1958, and Elisabeth Evelyn Farwell, born in 1961. They separated in 1977 but never divorced. In 1994, while Farwell was working on a production of Shadowlands on location, his first wife died of breast cancer. That same year, he met his second wife, Deb Note, during a production of The King and I in which both appeared; the two married onstage following a Sunday matinee in 1994. Deb Note-Farwell died from cancer in 2018.

Farwell died on November 22, 2025, at the age of 93, from complications of a hip fracture at a hospice in Fort Collins, Colorado.
