Raymond John Flynn, born in Brooklyn, New York on March 7, 1914, was an American actor who performed under the professional name John Rodney, and occasionally as John Flynn. He died on January 1, 1996. His career in film, television, and theater extended from the late 1940s through the mid-1960s.
Rodney's film work began in the late 1940s and included several notable Hollywood productions. He appeared alongside Teresa Wright and Robert Mitchum in Pursued (1947), and the following year took on the role of Deputy Sheriff Sawyer in John Huston's Key Largo (1948), a crime film starring Humphrey Bogart, Edward G. Robinson, and Lauren Bacall. Also in 1948, he appeared in Fighter Squadron, which featured Edmond O'Brien and Robert Stack. His film credits continued with Calamity Jane and Sam Bass (1949), starring Yvonne De Carlo and Howard Duff.
Rodney brought his career to the Broadway stage in the early 1950s, appearing in Flight Into Egypt and The Grand Tour between 1951 and 1952.
His television work was extensive, spanning the late 1940s through the 1960s. He appeared in a Westinghouse Studio One episode titled The Storm, and took on the role of Edwin Booth in an episode of Bonanza. Additional credits included Sea Hunt (1961) with Lloyd Bridges, two episodes of Wagon Train in season four, The Fugitive starring David Janssen, Gunsmoke, and a guest appearance on McHale's Navy with Ernest Borgnine. Rodney's final screen appearance came in 1964 on The Tycoon, starring Walter Brennan.
