About
John Ramm is an English actor and comedian whose career spans stage, film, television, and radio. He made his Broadway debut in 2015, appearing in Wolf Hall Parts One & Two, Mike Poulton's stage adaptations of Hilary Mantel's novels. In those productions, Ramm played Thomas More and Henry Norris in Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies respectively, roles he had originated during the 2014–2015 run of the productions prior to their Broadway transfer.
His stage work includes a range of classical and contemporary productions. Ramm appeared with the Royal Shakespeare Company during their 2004 Lope de Vega season and performed at the Chichester Festival Theatre. In 2008, he took part in a production of Ring Round the Moon at the Playhouse Theatre in London, and in 2011 he played Dogberry in Much Ado About Nothing. The 2013 play The Low Road also featured him among its cast. In 2016, his performance at the Orange Tree Theatre in Sheppey earned him The Offie, the Off West End Theatre Award for Best Male Performance. He also portrays Raymond Box in the National Theatre of Brent.
On screen, Ramm has accumulated credits across film and television. His film work includes a role as Makepeace's neighbour in Shakespeare in Love. His television appearances include the Robin Hood episode "Will You Tolerate This?", The Palace, and the Foyle's War episode "All Clear." In March 2022, he appeared in the BBC soap opera Doctors, playing the character Bix Banton.
In radio, Ramm is a recurring presence on BBC Radio 4, where he plays Sergeant Brunswick in the comedy drama series Inspector Steine.
