John Lavelle is an American actor and playwright born on November 23, 1981, in Brooklyn, New York. He works across stage, film, and television, and has also written several plays, including Sinner's Laundry and Inhalation.

Lavelle grew up in Brooklyn and attended Monsignor Farrell High School in Staten Island, New York, where he became the first anchor of the school's student-run television station, WFBN. He went on to study at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama in 2004.

His Broadway career includes a 2002 appearance in The Graduate, John Reid's stage adaptation of the story, in which Lavelle played Benjamin Braddock opposite Lorraine Bracco. Beyond Broadway, he received a Drama Desk Award for his work in The Royale at the Lincoln Center Theatre. His film credits include the role of Roy Reed in Selma.

Lavelle is a performer at the Upright Citizens Brigade and holds membership in the IAMA Theatre Company in Los Angeles.
