About

John LaMotta (January 8, 1939 – January 29, 2014) was an American actor born in Brooklyn, New York, whose career spanned Broadway, film, and television over several decades. He was the nephew of boxer Jake LaMotta.

LaMotta's Broadway career ran from 1967 to 1978 and included appearances in Illya Darling, I'm Solomon, Pal Joey, Zorba, and Annie. In the final years of his life, he remained connected to the stage through involvement with a theatrical group in Los Angeles.

His film career began in 1981 with One More Chance, directed by Sam Firstenberg. LaMotta went on to appear in several additional Firstenberg productions in supporting capacities, among them Revenge of the Ninja (1983) and American Ninja (1985). His broader filmography included A Place Called Today (1972), Mean Johnny Barrows (1976), 2076 Olympiad (1977), Ninja III: The Domination (1984), Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo (1984), Running Scared (1986), Why Me? On television, LaMotta accumulated early credits on Baretta, Barney Miller, Cagney & Lacey, and Hill Street Blues. From 1986 to 1990, he played neighbor Trevor Ochmonek on the sitcom ALF, created by Paul Fusco. In a 2010 interview, LaMotta described the role as the worst work he had ever done. Following ALF, he appeared in episodes of Growing Pains, ER, and Frasier. LaMotta died in Los Angeles, California, on January 29, 2014.
