John Joseph Finn, born September 30, 1952, in the Bronx, New York, is an American character actor whose career has spanned stage, film, and television. Raised in an Irish-American family, he graduated from Eldred Central School in Eldred, New York, in 1970. Following graduation, he served in the Navy before pursuing a career in acting.
Finn made his Broadway appearance in 1985, performing in Biloxi Blues. His stage work preceded a lengthy career in film and television that established him as a recognizable character actor across multiple decades.
On the big screen, Finn appeared in Glory (1989), The Pelican Brief (1993), Blown Away (1994), Turbulence (1997), True Crime (1999), Analyze That (2002), Catch Me If You Can (2002), and The Hunted (2003).
Finn is perhaps best known to television audiences for his lead roles in the series Cold Case and EZ Streets. He also accumulated a substantial number of recurring television credits, including appearances on Brooklyn South across eight episodes, NYPD Blue — on which he appeared on three separate occasions, each time as a different character — Chicago Hope, Strange World, The X-Files, The Practice, and Dawson's Creek. He additionally appeared in Blue Bloods in Season 13, Episode 19, which aired on May 5, 2023.
