John Deverell was a British actor born on 30 May 1880 in London, England, who died on 2 March 1965 in Haywards Heath, Sussex, England. His career spanned stage, film, and television across several decades.
Deverell appeared on Broadway between 1913 and 1925, with credits including the play Naughty Cinderella and the musical The Little Cafe.
His film work began in 1920 with John Forrest Finds Himself, in which he played the Hon. Vere Blair. Throughout the 1930s he appeared in a substantial number of British productions, taking on roles that included Lord Halliford in Alibi (1931), Lord Middlehurst in Above Rubies (1932), and the Consul in Monte Carlo Madness (1932). He portrayed the King in The Divine Spark (1935), Lord Budmarsh in They Didn't Know (1936), and Emile Pomerell in The Girl in the Taxi (1937). Additional film appearances during this period included A Night in Montmartre (1932), The Path of Glory (1934), The King of Paris (1934), Marry the Girl (1935), Get off My Foot (1936), Because of Love (1936), The Street Singer (1937), Incident in Shanghai (1938), and I've Got a Horse (1938).
Deverell continued working into the television era. He appeared in the 1947 television film Larry the Lamb as the Inventor, a role he reprised in the 1950 production The Cruise of the Toytown Belle. He played Justin Crowe in the 1951 television series At Your Service, Ltd., the Royal Physician in the 1953 television short Many Moons, and Dr. Spurgeon in multiple episodes of the 1953 television series Thames Tug. He also appeared in the BBC Sunday-Night Theatre production The Perfect Woman in 1956, playing Professor Archibald Belmon.
