About
John Bedford Lloyd is an American character actor born on January 2, 1956, in New Haven, Connecticut. He is the son of architect Edward Bedford Lloyd, who died in 1990, and Ann Lloyd, born in 1925 and died in 2008, a women's clothing designer and wedding planner whose father was John Whitmore Storrs of Fairfield, Connecticut. Lloyd grew up with a sister and a brother, and his parents maintained residences in Southport and Greens Farms, Connecticut, as well as Palm Beach, Florida, where they renovated and remodeled a number of houses in both states.
Lloyd's path toward acting began during his undergraduate years at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, where a role in a production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest led him to pursue a professional career in the theater. He subsequently trained at Yale School of Drama, and after completing his studies there he relocated to Manhattan to begin working as a stage actor.
His Broadway career spanned from 1990 to 2003 and included appearances in Tartuffe, The Rainmaker, and Some Americans Abroad. Alongside his stage work, Lloyd built a substantial screen career in both film and television. His film credits include Trading Places, Crossing Delancey, Philadelphia, Fair Game, The Bourne Supremacy, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, and The Front Runner. On television, he has appeared in series including Hometown, Law and Order, Aliens in the Family, John Adams, and Ozark.
On August 23, 1986, Lloyd married actress Anne Twomey. The couple has two daughters, Hannah and Elizabeth.
