Johann Carlo is an American actress born on May 21, 1957, in Buffalo, New York. Her Broadway career spans from 1983 to 1991, with credits including Plenty and La Bête.
Carlo made her Broadway debut in 1983, taking on the role of Louise in Plenty. She returned to Broadway in 1991 for La Bête. Beyond the stage, she has written and acted in several performance pieces, and was commissioned by the Whitney Museum to write, direct, and perform in the musical It's Still Life, which subsequently toured in India and Morocco.
Her screen career began in 1986, when she was cast as Dixie, the cabbie who introduced the King of Cartoons on Pee-wee's Playhouse, a role that appeared only during the show's first season. That same year she appeared in the television series Crime Story. She went on to appear in Law & Order in 1991 and again in 1997, and in Chicago Hope in 1995. From 1999 onward she held a recurring role on The Sopranos, playing Bonnie DiCaprio.
Carlo's film debut came in 1989 in Merchant Ivory's Slaves of New York, in which she played a performance artist and performed the song "Say Hi to Your Guy," a composition she wrote, alongside Michael Butler. Subsequent film appearances include Reversal of Fortune in 1990, Quiz Show in 1994, Looking for Richard in 1996, and Happiness in 1998.
