About
Joan Meredith was an American actress born on January 28, 1907, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and died on October 13, 1980. Standing five feet tall with a petite build, she relocated to Hollywood in the mid-1920s after a beauty contest victory drew the attention of talent scouts.
Meredith's screen career began in 1925 with Blue Blood, in which she appeared alongside George Walsh. That same year she was among thirteen actresses named WAMPAS Baby Stars, a group that also included June Marlowe, later recognized for her work in the Our Gang serials. Her second film of 1925 was The Perfect Clown, opposite Dorothy Dwan. In 1926 she appeared in four films, reuniting with George Walsh in The Count of Luxembourg before taking on roles in The Fighting Boob and a western, King of the Saddle, in which she played the heroine opposite cowboy film star Bill Cody. Her final film, The Truthful Sex, also starred Huntley Gordon and is noted for its association with the early career of Mae Busch. After completing that picture, Meredith stepped away from film acting, working for a period as a model before settling permanently in Los Angeles.
Her connection to the stage came later in her career, when she appeared on Broadway in 1935 in the play Creeping Fire. She remained a resident of Los Angeles until her death on October 13, 1980.
