About

JJ Niemann is an actor and social media content creator who has performed on Broadway from 2011 to 2023, with credits including The Book of Mormon, Hamilton, and Back to the Future: The Musical. He was raised in Wilmington, North Carolina, and earned a degree from Elon University in 2017.

Niemann's professional stage career began almost immediately after graduation. Within three days of finishing college, he secured a swing position in the Broadway production of The Book of Mormon, where he covered all seven ensemble tracks. He made his debut with the production in July 2017 and remained a full-time company member through December 2019. Following his departure, he continued to return to the show periodically in a vacation and emergency swing capacity.

In 2023, Niemann appeared in the ensemble of the Paper Mill Playhouse production of Hercules before joining the original Broadway cast of Back to the Future: The Musical as an ensemble member. In that production he also served as an understudy for both Marty McFly and George McFly. In February 2024, he took part in a workshop for Smash, a Broadway musical adaptation of the television series of the same name. He then joined the Broadway cast of Hamilton in February 2025, performing the role of Charles Lee alongside ensemble duties, and remained with that company through August 2025. In the fall of 2025, Niemann played the lead role of Frank Abagnale, Jr. in a production of Catch Me If You Can at the Marriott Theatre.

Beyond his stage work, Niemann has built a substantial presence on social media as one of the prominent Broadway content creators on TikTok, surpassing one million followers as of January 2025. His content spans behind-the-scenes footage from life in the theatre, comedy, and dance, and he is particularly recognized for his recurring series featuring Broadway performers with their microphones on and off. In December 2020, he participated in Ratatouille: the TikTok Musical, a virtual production organized during the COVID-19 pandemic that also featured Andrew Barth Feldman, Andre De Shields, and Tituss Burgess, and which raised millions of dollars for pandemic relief efforts. Niemann is openly gay.
