About
Jewel Restaneo is an American actress, singer, and songwriter born on November 18, 1991, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She began performing in competitive dance and singing competitions at eighteen months old, accumulating more than 500 awards. At age three, she released her debut CD single, "Where Do I Go?," produced by Gary Carolla, who also produced recordings for Aaron Carter and the Backstreet Boys. The proceeds from that release benefited Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh. A New York talent agency subsequently signed her, and her younger sister Blaire Restaneo, born April 14, 1994, joined her in singing, dancing, and acting. Together the sisters recorded and released more than six CDs and cassettes sold in stores including Sam Goody and National Record Mart, donating all proceeds to Pittsburgh Children's Hospital.
In 2000, both sisters were cast in Martin Charnin's national tour of Annie. Jewel performed the roles of Duffy and later the title role of Annie, while Blaire played Molly. Following six months on tour, the two were cast in the Broadway production of Annie Get Your Gun, which ran from October 11, 2000, through September 1, 2001. During their time in New York working on that production, Jewel and Blaire made guest appearances on television programs including Saturday Night Live and All My Children. They also participated in ABC's Challenge America TV Special alongside Erin Brockovich and other Broadway performers.
After Annie Get Your Gun closed, Jewel was cast in A Christmas Carol at Madison Square Garden, playing the roles of Fan and Martha Cratchit during the 2001–2002 run, which featured Tim Curry and F. Murray Abraham. In 2001, the sisters collaborated with fashion designer Ace Ross on a children's clothing line called Apparel 4 Stars, having previously served as cover models for his designs in Spree Magazine. They also appeared at the ENK International Fashion Show and were interviewed in Children's Business Magazine in connection with the line, which was sold in 2002 at stores including Fred Segal Kids in Hollywood.
In 2003, Jewel and Blaire relocated from New York to Los Angeles to focus on their music careers. During that period they guest starred on television series including Cold Case and Duck Dodgers and appeared in numerous commercials. In 2006, both sisters were cast as characters Khristy and Maggie in the feature film The Legend of Sasquatch, starring William Hurt and John Rhys-Davies. That December, they performed at the film's screening at the Viacom Paramount Christmas Party and presented awards at the International Family Film Festival in Hollywood, where the film received recognition.
In 2011, Jewel and Blaire formed the electro-pop-rock band Pixikill and worked with Jonas Brothers producer PJ Bianco on an EP titled The Luring, which debuted during an AOL listening party and received coverage in teen publications including J-14 and Twist. In 2013, the duo released the Pixikill single "Scream," produced by The Humble Brothers, accompanied by a self-directed music video featuring J Chris Newberg, Joey Luthman, and Miranda May. The sisters also directed and edited music videos for other artists during this period, including two Boyz II Men videos, "Underwater" and "Already Gone," in 2014.
In 2016, Jewel and Blaire launched a new musical project under the name MUJYBELA, releasing two songs produced by EDM producer Demitri Medina. In 2018, the duo began writing and producing their own material independently, releasing the singles "Boston," "FGTW," and "Christmas Time" that year. On April 14, 2020, MUJYBELA released the single "Hide Me."
