About
Jerry Dixon is an American actor, director, writer, lyricist, choreographer, and composer whose career on the Broadway stage spans from 1990 to 2014. Born in Chicago, Dixon has worked across multiple disciplines in the theater industry, contributing to productions both as a performer and as a member of creative teams.
Dixon made his Broadway acting debut in Once on This Island, originating the role of Daniel Beauxhomme during the show's run from October 18, 1990 through December 1, 1991. He returned to the role in a 2002 reunion concert. His other Broadway acting credits include Five Guys Named Moe, in which he played Nomax from April 8, 1992 through May 2, 1993, and If/Then, where he portrayed Stephen during its run from March 30, 2014 through March 22, 2015. His performance in Tick, Tick... Boom! Off-Broadway, where he played Michael in 2001, earned him a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical in 2002.
Beyond performing, Dixon contributed to Broadway as a book writer and member of creative teams. He served as composer, lyricist, and musical supervisor for An Evening With Mario Cantone in 2002, and took on those same roles along with music arrangements and assistant director duties for Laugh Whore in 2004. He also contributed music and lyrics to Rock of Ages in 2009. Dixon married Mario Cantone in 2011; the two had first met in 1991.
Dixon's Off-Broadway credits include The River in 1988, Bright Lights Big City in 1999, Taking a Chance on Love and The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin in 2000, Romantic Poetry in 2008, and Steve in 2015. His regional theater work as a director and choreographer includes productions of Two Gentlemen of Verona, The Full Monty, Bernarda Alba, Show Boat at the Village Theatre, and Great Wall, also at the Village Theatre, among others. In 2017, Dixon was named Artistic Director of the Village Theatre in Seattle.
His television appearances include single episodes of Beverly Hills, 90210 in 1996, Seinfeld in 1997, Law and Order in 2004, Everwood in 2005, and Gotham in 2016, as well as two episodes of He's With Me in 2015 and three episodes of The Broadway.com Show in 2014. He served as composer for the 2005 television movie Mario Cantone: Laugh Whore. In film, Dixon appeared in The Peacemaker in 1997. Dixon also teaches classes in workshopping shows, auditioning, and adapting stories, and has performed in concert alongside Idina Menzel, Julia Murney, Norm Lewis, LaChanze, Marin Mazzie, and Raul Midon.
