About

Together with his friend Robert Brustein, Jeremy Geidt departed the Yale Repertory Theatre to co-found the American Repertory Theater. Across some 100 ART productions, he became one of the region's most recognizable faces on stage. A mentor to scores of actors he taught at Harvard University, he also shared the applause of thousands of theater-goers with fellow company members.

Jeremy Geidt began his career at London's Old Vic theater, and his British upbringing resonated in his voice, stories, and bearing. An actor of wide range, he brought intelligence and energy to the works of Shakespeare and Chekhov, Samuel Beckett and Sam Shepard. His career was singular in its span — from acting alongside Richard Burton in England decades earlier to coaching Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino for a State of the City address.

Among his roles: Alonso in The Tempest, Sir Toby Belch in Twelfth Night, Gayev in The Cherry Orchard, Vladimir in Waiting for Godot, and Dodge in Buried Child. He appeared on Broadway in A Midsummer Night's Dream in 1954 and Alfie! in 1964.
