Jeanne Stuart

Jeanne Stuart, born Ivy Sweet on 13 August 1908, was a British stage and film actress who performed under her stage name on the London stage, on Broadway, and in motion pictures. She died on 12 February 2003 in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Stuart's Broadway career spanned from 1921 to 1948 and included appearances in The Rats of Norway, the play Nine Till Six, and the musical The Merry Widow Burlesque. Her West End credits during the same period included Walter Hackett's Road House in 1932, Afterwards in 1933, and Espionage in 1935. In 1945 she appeared in the musical Under the Counter alongside Cicely Courtneidge.

Her screen career began in 1931 and ultimately encompassed more than twenty films in which she performed and starred.

In 1933 Stuart married businessman Bernard Docker, though the marriage lasted only a few months. Docker's father hired private detectives to follow her, and upon discovering her association with actor David Hutcheson under circumstances described as adultery, Docker divorced her.

Following World War II, Stuart relocated to the United States and settled on Long Island. There she met Baron Eugène Daniel von Rothschild, a grandson of Salomon Mayer von Rothschild of the Austrian Rothschild banking family. The two married in 1952, after which Stuart retired from acting. She and her husband lived for a time in New York City and on Long Island before establishing their permanent residence in Monte Carlo, Monaco, where she lived until her death in 2003.
