Jean Bouise was a French actor born on 3 June 1929 in Le Havre, France, who built a career spanning theater, film, and Broadway before his death on 6 July 1989 in Lyon.
During the 1950s, Bouise was among the founders of Théâtre de la Cité, where he also performed as a company member. His stage work extended to Broadway in 1968, where he appeared in productions of Tartuffe, George Dandin, and the musical The Three Musketeers.
Bouise entered film in the 1960s, accumulating supporting roles across a range of notable productions. His credits from that period include The Shameless Old Lady, Z, L'Aveu, Out 1, The Return of the Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe, Section spéciale, and Monsieur Klein. His performances in Le vieux fusil and Le Juge Fayard dit Le Shériff each earned him César nominations, and he subsequently won the César Award for Best Supporting Actor for his work in Coup de tête. Later film appearances included Édith et Marcel, Le Dernier Combat, Subway, The Big Blue, and La Femme Nikita.
