About

Jayne Eastwood, born December 17, 1946, in Toronto, Ontario, is a Canadian actress, comedian, and voice performer who has worked across film, television, stage, and animation throughout a career spanning more than five decades. She grew up in the Hoggs Hollow area of York Mills Road, spent childhood summers at a cottage in Muskoka, and skied in Collingwood, Ontario during winters. She attended Northern Secondary School and took a short class at York Mills Collegiate Institute. Before pursuing acting, Eastwood worked as a painter. Her transition into performance came when a friend who was a commercial artist invited her to take a role in a local production of Suddenly, Last Summer, where an acting agent in the audience recognized her ability.

Among her earliest professional work were appearances in commercials for brands including Sani Flush, Scope, Facelle Royale, Paris Pat, Toyota, Wintario, and Molson Golden, the last of which she filmed alongside Gilda Radner and Andrea Martin. Her screen career began in 1970, and she appeared the following year in Don Shebib's Goin' Down the Road, playing the pregnant Betty in what became a landmark of Canadian cinema. She was an original member of the Toronto branch of The Second City comedy troupe and was a semiregular performer on SCTV. She was also part of the original Toronto cast of Godspell, and that production brought her to Broadway in 1971.

Eastwood has accumulated a substantial body of film work, with notable roles including Anna-Marie Biddlecoff in Finders Keepers (1984), Judy the Waitress in The Santa Clause (1994), Mrs. Borusewicz in Chicago (2002), Mrs. White in the My Big Fat Greek Wedding franchise across films released between 2002 and 2023, Lucy Decker in Welcome to Mooseport (2004), and Miss Wimsey in Hairspray (2007). Her television credits are equally extensive. She portrayed Gwen Twining in King of Kensington from 1978 to 1980, and later took on recurring roles as Bernice in Material World, Jeannie in Wild Card (2003), Bridget in Train 48 (2004–2005), Ronnie Sacks in This Is Wonderland (2005–2006), Maxine Bingly in Billable Hours (2006–2008), Miss Wispinski in Little Mosque on the Prairie (2008–2011), and Dr. Gloria Verrano in Haven, appearing in seasons four and five beginning in 2013. She also played Aunt Agatha Flugelschmidt in the PBS Kids series Noddy from 1998 to 2000.

Voice acting has formed a significant part of Eastwood's career. Her animation credits include Birthday Bear in The Care Bears Family, Mrs. Rockchewer in The Neverending Story, Mrs. Kersplatski in JoJo's Circus, Lady Rataxes in Babar and the Adventures of Badou, Momma in Scaredy Squirrel, and Helga Humdinger in PAW Patrol. Additional voice work spans ALF: The Animated Series, Annedroids, Best Ed, Bob and Margaret, Dino Dan: Trek's Adventures, Half a Pantaloon, Monster by Mistake, and Peep and the Big Wide World.

Eastwood has received recognition from ACTRA on multiple occasions, including the National Award of Excellence in 2013 and the Award of Excellence at the Toronto ACTRA Awards in 2019. At the 7th Canadian Screen Awards in 2019, she won Best Supporting Performance in a Digital Program or Series for the web series The Writers' Block. At the 9th Canadian Screen Awards in 2021, she took the award for Best Lead Performance in a Digital Program or Series for Hey Lady!, and at the 12th Canadian Screen Awards in 2024, she won Best Performance in an Animated Program or Series for her voice work in PAW Patrol. That same year she received a Canadian Screen Award nomination for her role in the Christmas episode of Pink Is In.

Eastwood was married to David Flaherty, a film and television writer and brother of SCTV alumnus Joe Flaherty. She is his widow. She has also been involved in the Toronto theatrical production Women Fully Clothed. She is sometimes credited under the names Jane Easton or Jane Eastwood.
