About
Jason Forbach is an American actor, singer, playwright, and filmmaker originally from Kansas City, Missouri. Born around 1978 or 1979, he earned a Bachelor of Music from the University of Missouri in 2000, the same year he received the Chancellor's Emerging Artist Award. He subsequently completed a Master's degree with academic distinction at New England Conservatory in Boston.
Forbach's professional stage career has spanned multiple decades and productions. In 2006, he joined the Las Vegas cast of The Phantom of the Opera, where he understudied the roles of Raoul and Monsieur Reyer. He later became a vacation swing for the production at the Majestic Theatre on Broadway, primarily covering Raoul, Reyer, Marksman, and Hairdresser over several years. On November 21, 2022, he stepped into the role of Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny at the Majestic Theatre for a limited engagement running through December 5.
His work with Les Misérables began in 2012, when he joined the 25th Anniversary national tour playing Feuilly and understudying Enjolras. During the tour he assumed the role of Enjolras, performing opposite his real-life husband, actor Joseph Spieldenner, who played Grantaire. In March 2014, Forbach returned to the show in its second Broadway revival, again as Feuilly and understudy to Enjolras. He covered the role of Enjolras in October 2014 before departing it in November, continuing with the production as Feuilly and the Factory Foreman. In 2013, between his two stints with Les Misérables, he received acclaim for portraying Chris Scott in the North Shore Music Theatre production of Miss Saigon.
Into the Woods became a recurring production in Forbach's career. In 2009, he played the dual role of Rapunzel's Prince and the Wolf at the Wells Fargo Pavilion. In 2022, he joined the New York City Center Encores! production as the male swing, covering for Rapunzel's Prince for much of the run when Jordan Donica was unavailable. The production transferred to the St. James Theatre for its second Broadway revival, where Forbach understudied the Baker, the Wolf and Cinderella's Prince, Rapunzel's Prince, and the Narrator and Mysterious Man. He opened the Broadway production as the Baker in place of Brian d'Arcy James and performed as Rapunzel's Prince and the Wolf and Cinderella's Prince on numerous occasions, including a three-day stretch in August when both Gavin Creel and Cheyenne Jackson were unavailable. In 2023, Forbach toured the United States in ten cities with the Broadway production, playing Rapunzel's Prince and understudying the Baker alongside Creel, Stephanie J. Block, Montego Glover, and Sebastian Arcelus. On February 23, he stepped in as the Baker for the second act of the preview performance at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., then opened the engagement in that role and played it for the majority of the Kennedy Center run while Arcelus recovered from an injury. He also assumed the Baker role during a six-day absence by Arcelus at the Emerson Colonial Theatre in Boston and during the production's closing weekend at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville.
Forbach appeared as Captain Albert Lennox in the 2016 and 2017 productions of The Secret Garden at the Shakespeare Theatre Company and 5th Avenue Theatre. He subsequently joined the Broadway casts of A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical, which opened in October 2024, and Ragtime, which opened in October 2025.
Beyond performing, Forbach has pursued writing and directing. His play Heathen Hill placed in the 2019 New Works of Merit Playwriting Competition and received an industry reading directed by Kevin Newbury, with Dan Amboyer in the cast. His television pilot Brooklyn Pansy, a one-hour period drama, was named a Grand Prize Winner in the WeScreenplay Spring 2020 Diverse Voices Screenwriting Lab. In 2024, it was announced that Forbach would make his film directorial debut with the short thriller The Delicate Medium, based on a screenplay he wrote, with production postponed from summer 2025 to 2026.
On February 9, 2016, Forbach married actor Joseph Spieldenner.
