Janet Ward was an American actress born on February 19, 1925, in New York, New York. Over the course of a career spanning stage, film, and television, she built a substantial body of work across multiple decades before her death on August 2, 1995, in Manhattan, New York City, at the age of 70, from a heart attack.
Ward's stage career placed her on Broadway from 1945 through 1967. Her theatrical credits included Anne of the Thousand Days, Middle of the Night, the Archibald MacLeish play J.B., The King of Friday's Men, and The Egg, among other productions.
Her film work included three notable features. She appeared in Sidney Lumet's Fail Safe in 1964, returned to work with Lumet in The Anderson Tapes in 1971, and later took a role in Arthur Penn's Night Moves in 1975.
Ward was also a consistent presence on American television. Her series credits included Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Perry Mason — in which she played guest character Freda Chase in season six, episode seven — The Defenders, N.Y.P.D., Cannon, Barney Miller, Kojak, and Law & Order.
