About

Janet Krupin is an American actress, singer, writer, and producer born on October 7, 1987, in Kennewick, Washington, to Paul and Nancy Krupin. She has a younger sister, Katie. Krupin graduated from Kennewick High School in 2006 and went on to earn a degree in Cinematic Arts—Critical Studies from the University of Southern California in 2010, where she also completed double minors in Musical Theatre and Philosophy.

Krupin began performing in community theatre at a young age and became a five-time gold medalist and Adjudicators' Choice at the Northwest Music Festival. Her work in Los Angeles earned her recognition from StageSceneLA, which named her Best Featured Actress in a Musical in 2009 for her portrayal of Anita in West Side Story, and Breakthrough Star of the Year in 2010 for her work across several productions including Bark! The Musical, NeverWonderLand, a solo show at Sterlings Upstairs at Vitello's, and Urinetown at USC. That same year she won the LA's Next Great Stage Star competition. She earned her Equity card in 2010 playing Chanel, an opera-singing poodle, in the Civic Light Opera of South Bay Cities production of Bark! The Musical.

Shortly after completing her degree, Krupin was cast in the world premiere of Bring It On: The Musical at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia, which opened on January 28, 2011. The show features music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Tom Kitt, and Amanda Green, with a book by Jeff Whitty, and Krupin originated the lead role of Kylar. Following the premiere engagement, she joined the First National Tour, which opened at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles on November 11, 2011, after a rehearsal period in New York. The tour ran for approximately five months across the United States and Toronto, Canada, before the production transferred to Broadway's St. James Theatre. Previews began on July 12, 2012, with an opening night of August 1, 2012. Krupin was among a record-breaking 30 performers making their Broadway debuts with that production. The limited engagement, originally scheduled to close on October 7, 2012, was extended before finally closing on December 30, 2012.

Prior to the closing of Bring It On, Krupin was cast in the Broadway production of Hands on a Hardbody, a new musical with a book by Doug Wright, music by Trey Anastasio and Amanda Green, and lyrics by Green. She served as Dance Captain and standby for the roles of Heather Stovall and Kelli Mangrum. The production played at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre from February 23, 2013, to April 13, 2013.

Krupin's second Broadway credit was If/Then, a musical with book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt. She served as a swing and understudy for the role of Elena in the production, which starred Idina Menzel. The show held its pre-Broadway premiere at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C., from November 5 through December 8, 2013, before beginning performances at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on March 5, 2014, and opening on March 30, 2014. The production played its final Broadway performance on March 22, 2015.

In June 2011, Krupin was named the original host of Teen.com's web series The Click Clique, on which she hosted more than twenty episodes during its first season. She briefly stepped away in September 2011 to rehearse for the Bring It On tour, contributing remote guest segments during that period, before returning in October 2011 to complete the season.

Krupin appeared in Hits, the feature film directorial debut of David Cross, in the role of Megyn, a part she secured through a video submission. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, on January 21, 2014. On July 26, 2014, she released her debut EP, Aurora EP, recorded with collaborator Alex Caraballo under the duo name Trillium.

From January 27 through December 18, 2015, Krupin participated in the podcast Backstage with the EDM Assassins alongside Grant Austin and Nick Pesavento, focusing on electronic dance music. In August 2015, she played Maureen in a production of Rent presented by Uncompromising Artistry Productions at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Edinburgh, Scotland, running from August 7 through August 30. Her If/Then castmate Anthony Rapp, who originated the role of Mark Cohen, served as a creative consultant on the production. On October 7, 2016, Krupin released the solo single "Hipster Pinup," available on iTunes, Amazon, and other digital platforms, alongside the tracks "Ghosted," "Bradshaw," and "I Don't Wanna."

In 2023, Krupin starred in the musical Lydia and the Troll, which debuted at Seattle Rep in Seattle. The following year she starred in the indie film Sunset Road, a queer take on Romeo and Juliet. Krupin is bisexual and resides in Kennewick, Washington.
