James Blendick is a Canadian character actor born in 1941 whose stage career spanned several decades before his retirement. He is most closely identified with the Stratford Festival, where he maintained an association lasting approximately 30 years.
At Stratford, Blendick took on leading roles across a wide range of productions, including Much Ado About Nothing, The Cherry Orchard, Waiting for Godot, Juno and the Paycock, Coriolanus, Richard III, Amadeus, The Little Foxes, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Twelfth Night, and The School for Scandal. In 2000 he appeared in the title role of Titus Andronicus, and in 2010 he played Gonzalo in a production of The Tempest alongside Christopher Plummer.
Blendick's Broadway career extended from 1971 to 2004 and included appearances in An Enemy of the People, Antigone, King Lear, and The Playboy of the Western World. He also performed on Broadway in Cyrano, opposite Christopher Plummer. Beyond New York, his stage work took him to the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, the Old Globe in San Diego, and the Grand Theatre in London, Ontario. In addition to his theater work, Blendick acted extensively in film and television.
