James A. Marcus was an American actor born in New York City on January 21, 1867. His career spanned both the stage and screen, beginning with Broadway appearances in the first decade of the twentieth century and extending through a prolific film career that lasted until his death.
Marcus was active on Broadway between 1907 and 1914, taking on roles across a range of productions. His stage credits included The Bludgeon, The Escape, The Sign of the Rose, and The Cub, as well as the musical The Hired Girl's Millions.
Following his stage work, Marcus transitioned to film, ultimately appearing in more than 100 productions between 1915 and 1937. Among his most recognized screen appearances were Regeneration, Oliver Twist, and Sadie Thompson.
Marcus died on October 15, 1937, in Hollywood, California, from a heart attack. He was 70 years old.
