About
Jake Weber is an English actor born on March 12, 1963, in London, England. He is recognized for his work across stage, film, and television, with a Broadway appearance in 1992 in A Small Family Business.
Weber was born to Susan Ann Caroline (née Coriat) and Thomas Evelyn Weber, known as Tommy, a racing driver from a wealthy family. His father was born in Denmark and was of Danish and English descent. Weber's maternal grandfather, Robert Coriat, was born in Mogador, Morocco, and was of Sephardic Jewish, specifically Moroccan-Jewish, descent. His maternal grandmother, Priscilla Weigall, came from an upper-class English family; her father was Sir William Ernest George Archibald Weigall, 1st Baronet, and her maternal grandfather was Sir John Blundell Maple, 1st Baronet. Weber has one brother, Charley. His mother was diagnosed with depression and schizophrenia and died at age 27 of a drug overdose when Weber was eight years old. His father struggled with substance addiction until his death in 2006 at age 67 and had involved both his sons in drug trafficking to various international destinations. In 1971, Weber's father brought him and his brother to Villa Nellcôte, where the Rolling Stones were recording Exile on Main St. Weber later recalled in a 2010 article for The Times that his father used him as a drug mule to bring cocaine out for Mick and Bianca Jagger's wedding. At the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, during the Directors' Fortnight launch of the documentary Stones in Exile, Mick Jagger referenced original footage showing an eight-year-old Weber rolling marijuana joints for the band.
Weber attended Summerhill School in Leiston, Suffolk, before traveling to the United States to study at Middlebury College in Vermont, where he majored in English literature and political science and sang a cappella with the Dissipated Eight, graduating with a B.A. cum laude in 1986. He then trained at The Juilliard School's Drama Division as a member of Group 19, from 1986 to 1990, alongside Laura Linney and Jeanne Tripplehorn. He also studied at the Moscow Art Theatre in Russia.
Weber began his film career with a small role as an unnamed boyfriend in Oliver Stone's Born on the Fourth of July in 1989. Subsequent film work brought him into collaboration with directors including Sidney Lumet on A Stranger Among Us in 1992, Alan J. Pakula on The Pelican Brief in 1993, and Martin Brest on Meet Joe Black in 1998, in which he played the character Drew. His role as Michael in the 2004 horror remake Dawn of the Dead brought him wider recognition. He was also cast in the 2021 film Those Who Wish Me Dead.
On television, Weber took on one of his earliest prominent roles as Dr. Matt Crower, a physician who protects a young boy from a possessed sheriff, in the CBS supernatural drama series American Gothic, created by Shaun Cassidy, in 1995. He played Jake Berman, a Chicago newspaper employee, in HBO's The Mind of the Married Man, in which he was a series regular in 2001 and 2002. Weber is perhaps best known to television audiences for his role as Joe DuBois, the sleep-deprived husband of psychic Allison DuBois, played by Patricia Arquette, in the drama series Medium. He made guest appearances on Law & Order: Criminal Intent and NYPD Blue, held a recurring role on Fox's The Following, and appeared in seasons six and seven of the Showtime series Homeland. He also had series regular roles on Hell on Wheels and NCIS: Hawaii. In 2016, Weber played the psychotherapist husband of Detective Andrea Cornell, portrayed by Juliette Lewis, in the second season of the ABC series Secrets and Lies. He additionally appeared in the Netflix series Easy.
Weber has performed on Broadway and off-Broadway. His verified Broadway credit is the 1992 production of A Small Family Business.
In his personal life, Weber was married to Diana Oreiro from 1995 to 1997. In 2017, he married Korri Culbertson. He has a son named Waylon from a previous relationship.
