About
Jacob Rives Pitts, born November 20, 1979, in Weston, Connecticut, is an American actor working across television, film, and stage. He is the son of Arlene and Joseph Rives Pitts. Growing up in Weston, Pitts was involved in theater during his high school years, including a performance as the Mysterious Man in Into the Woods.
Pitts made his professional debut in 1999 with an appearance on Comedy Central's Strangers with Candy. The following year, he made his Broadway debut in a production of Macbeth, playing the role of Fleance. He also appeared in the play Where Do We Live at the Vineyard Theatre in May 2004. Early television work included appearances on Sex and the City and Law & Order.
On film, Pitts is known for playing Cooper Harris in the comedy EuroTrip (2004). In 2008, he appeared as Fisher in the thriller 21, alongside Kevin Spacey, Jim Sturgess, Kate Bosworth, and Laurence Fishburne. For his part in that ensemble, Pitts received the Best Ensemble Award at the ShoWest Convention in 2008, an honor shared with his castmates.
In 2010, Pitts took on two significant roles. He portrayed PFC Bill "Hoosier" Smith in HBO's miniseries The Pacific, which depicted the experiences of World War II U.S. Marines. That same year, he began playing Deputy U.S. Marshal Tim Gutterson on FX's Justified, a role he held for six seasons and 78 episodes, through 2015.
Subsequent television work included the role of Lance Lord in the crime drama Sneaky Pete, appearing in 15 episodes, a recurring role in the first season of The Sinner, and appearances in Homecoming and The Blacklist. Pitts married Slovak actress and director Tereza Nvotová in 2020, and the two divide their time between Prague and New York.
