Jack Edwards Livesey was a British stage and film actor born on 11 June 1901 in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan. He came from a theatrical family: his father was Sam Livesey, his brother was Barry Livesey, and Roger Livesey was both his cousin and step-brother. Livesey died on 12 October 1961 in Burbank, California, at the age of 60.
His stage career spanned both sides of the Atlantic. In London's West End, he appeared in The Lisbon Story, a musical that ran from 1943 to 1944. On Broadway, Livesey performed across three decades, with credits stretching from 1927 to 1957. His Broadway appearances included the play Yellow Sands, George Bernard Shaw's comedy The Apple Cart, and John Osborne's Look Back in Anger.
Livesey also worked in film and television. In 1960, he appeared in an episode of the Western television series Maverick, titled "Cruise of the Cynthia B," which starred James Garner and Mona Freeman. In the episode, Livesey portrayed a character named Gillespie MacKenzie, who is discovered hanging from a tree by Garner's character, Bret Maverick, at the opening of the story.
