Born April 27, 1922, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jack Klugman was the son of Max and Rose Klugman. After serving in the United States Army during World War II, he studied drama at Carnegie Institute of Technology. His first marriage, to actress Brett Somers, produced two children, Adam and David. He later married Peggy Crosby.
Film credits include "12 Angry Men," "Days of Wine and Roses," "Two-Minute Warning," "The Split," "Goodbye, Columbus," "The Detective," "Dear God," "I Could Go on Singing," "When Do We Eat?," and "The Twilight of the Golds." Among his television credits: "The Twilight Zone," "Gunsmoke," "The Love Boat," "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In," "Crossing Jordan," "Diagnosis Murder," and "Match Game 73."
Jack Klugman received three Primetime Emmy Awards: Outstanding Single Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for "The Defenders" in 1964, and Outstanding Continued Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Comedy Series for "The Odd Couple" in both 1971 and 1973.
On December 28, 2012, Broadway theater marquees were dimmed in his honor.
