Lanoe made his Broadway appearance in 1908, performing in the musical The Yankee Prince. His stage work placed him among the professional theater community of the early twentieth century, a milieu that also connected him to fellow actor Harry Hyde, who was his romantic partner.

Lanoe continued to appear in features into the 1920s, taking roles in The Eternal City (1915), A Splendid Hazard (1920), The Forbidden Woman (1920), The Tiger's Coat (1920), The Kiss (1921) as Carlos, The Magnificent Brute (1921), The Altar Stairs (1922) as Captain Jean Malet, and Prodigal Daughters (1923) as Juda Botanya.
