Ivan Samson

Ivan Samson (28 August 1894 – 1 May 1963) was a British actor whose career spanned stage, film, and television. Born in 1894, he built a professional life across multiple decades and performance mediums, working in the West End, on Broadway, and in a substantial body of screen work.

Samson's stage career included regular appearances in West End productions as well as a Broadway credit in 1930, when he appeared in Symphony in Two Flats. His screen work began during the silent film era, with his first film appearance dating to 1920. Among his silent film roles were Viscount de Mornay in I Will Repay (1923) and Lord Dudley in The Loves of Mary, Queen of Scots (1923).

As the industry transitioned to sound, Samson continued working in British cinema through the 1930s and 1940s, appearing in films including Blossom Time (1934), Royal Cavalcade (1935), and Waltz Time (1945). He took on roles in two notable literary adaptations during this period: The Winslow Boy (1948) and The Browning Version (1951). His final film appearance came in 1959, when he played Admiral Loddon in Libel.

Alongside his film work, Samson appeared in British television productions, including The Teckman Biography, Operation Diplomat, and Dixon of Dock Green. He died on 1 May 1963.
