About

Irma Christenson (14 January 1915 – 21 February 1993) was a Swedish actress whose career spanned stage and film across several decades. Born in the small coastal village of Hunnebostrand, Sweden, she trained at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm from 1933 to 1936, an institution with which she would maintain a long professional association. She married the writer Per-Erik Rundquist, and the couple had a son, Mikael Rundquist, who also pursued a career as an actor.

Christenson built a substantial body of work in Swedish cinema beginning in the mid-1930s. Her film debut came with Adventure in 1936, and she went on to appear in numerous productions over the following decades, including Doctor Glas (1942), I Killed (1943), The Invisible Wall (1944), and Prison (1949). Her screen work continued into the early 1990s, with appearances in both The Best Intentions and Sunday's Children, both released in 1992.

In 1962, Christenson brought her stage work to an American audience with a Broadway appearance in two productions: The Father and Miss Julie. These credits placed her among the Swedish theatrical performers who carried their craft to international stages during that era.
